Remix IDE began as a project of the Ethereum Foundation and our url has been a subdomain of ethereum.org for a decade. In 2024, we began our journey toward full independence, and although we kept our original URL to ensure a smooth transition last year, it is now time for the next chapter.
The entire Remix toolset—along with all the latest RemixAI functionality, front-end generator QuickDApp, and new ZK and security tooling—is officially moving to app.remix.live.
This change represents full autonomy for the Remix project, allowing us to better serve the entire Web3 ecosystem.
What does this mean for you?
New Users: If you are new to Remix or do not have local files stored in your browser, you will be automatically redirected to app.remix.live.
Existing Users: We are committed to making this transition as seamless as possible. Follow the instructions in the "Move Your Workspaces” tab in the Editor. If you don’t see that tab, open the Workspace select box:
Migrating your work to app.remix.live takes just two steps:
While at the old url, you should download your current Workspaces in a .zip file to your desktop, and then…
There will be easy instructions in a modal on https://remix.ethereum.org to walk you through the process.
Why Migrating is Essential
Unless you are on Remix Pro or Remix Starter plans and using Cloud Storage or using Remix Desktop, Remix auto-saves your Workspaces to your browser’s storage. But, your browser storage under one URL cannot be shared with browser storage of another URL, so you will need to migrate.
BTW, If you have not tried the Cloud Storage feature of Remix Pro, sign up for a plan and then open up the Cloud Storage option:
Then, when you turn it on, you can open the Workspace select box and migrate your Workspaces to the cloud.
Of course you’ll need a Remix Pro or Remix Starter plan to use this feature.
Remember… app.remix.live
We strongly recommend updating your bookmarks and beginning your transition to app.remix.live today.
As always, thank you for being a part of our community. This move is a major milestone for us, and we are excited to continue building the future of Web3 with you.
Happy coding,
The Remix Team
